My Story

Hello! How is it going? I am Magdalena, and I am so excited to share news about my family and me with you. I am 23 years old. At the moment, I spend my time weaving typical items, and I also help with the chores at home. I thank God because the feeding program is open again; I walk about 50 minutes to get the program. My father continues working as a farmer, and he also travels to the coast to pick coffee beans during the harvest. He is responsible and supplies our home needs. My mother tries to help herself economically by weaving typical blouses and raising hens for selling. I love to share time with my family, and sometimes, we enjoy some snack all together. We are a humble family, and we do not celebrate Christmas due to lack of resources. My father suffers from gastritis and abdominal pain. He has already visited a doctor and is under medical treatment. The rest of my family is in good health.

We attend a charismatic group that belongs to Catholic Church. It is located about one hour from home. My mother helps with the cleaning on the service days. During the time our church was closed, we felt sad, but we took time to pray at home. Currently, we have normal services. We live in our own property; there is one room made of tin sheets walls and roof with a dirt floor. The kitchen is separate. We do not have water or electricity services. We use a lamp and candles at night, and we bring water from a natural spring with the help of jars. The house condition is good for now. Unfortunately, we are still being affected by the pandemic. Now, the food products have increased in costs, and it is very difficult to obtain our food since my father does not earn very much. My family and I are very grateful to you and Living Water because we were receiving food parcels while the feeding program was closed due to the pandemic. It was a big help for us. As a family our greatest needs are groceries and corn. Finally, I want to let you know that the LW team called us and asked for this updated information, so my mother provided it to them over the phone. I hope to receive news from you soon. May God bless you!

Kind regards,

Magdalena Mendez Garcia
