My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I greet you with much love. My name is Andi Santos Emanuel Morente Riz, and I am in good health. I was born on December 11, 2017, so I am 7 years old now. I am in 1st grade this year, and in my free time, I play soccer. I like the color blue, and I love dogs. My favorite food is fried chicken. I am the only child in the family, and I live 25 minutes away from the feeding program. One of my aunts accompanies me, and we pay a microbus to get there. As a family, we are attending Emmanuel Assembly of God Church. Please pray for us and our needs which are groceries and clothes.

My father’s name is Camilo Morente Jimon, but he does not live with us; he left us 7 years ago. He gives us a support every month, but it is just a little amount of money.  My mother’s name is Juana Riz Tum, and she is a housewife; she raises and sells hens to get some money. We live with my maternal grandparents, and we share the house with other relatives. The house has two rooms and a kitchen, and it is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We have running water and electricity services, and we all contribute to pay these bills. We have hens at home.

I would like to ask for your prayers for my grandparents. My grandpa suffers from diabetes and is under medical treatment. My grandma suffers from cataracts in both eyes, and she uses drops to relieve the pain. Thank God, the rest of my family is in good health. This is all for now. I hope you find it interesting.

With much love

Andi Santos Emanuel Morente Riz
