My Story

It is a pleasure to greet you hoping you are doing fine alongside your family. I am so happy to be sharing with you about my family and me. I am Deisy Karina Rodriguez Hernandez, and I am 12 years old, but I will turn 13 in August. My mother`s name is Teresa Hernandez Calachij and she is 34 years old. She continues doing chores at home. In addition, she weaves typical belts. At home, we raise hens for our consumption. My father`s name is Luis Rodriguez Riz and he is 37 years old. He continues working as a farmer and day laborer. In addition, he travels to the Coast to pick coffee beans from November to February during the harvest season. We continue attending the Church of Christ every Sunday. We are grateful to the Living Water evangelism team who encouraged us to continue seeking God and trust in him.

This year I am in 6th. grade. I have been learning well so far because I receive face-to-face classes every day. Nowadays, my father is making an effort to support me at school in spite of the fact that he does not have a stable job and that school supplies are so expensive. Sometimes it is hard for him to cover my expenses. In the future, I want to become a teacher. My native language is Maya Quiche, but I would like to learn Spanish in order to improve my communication with other people in the village. I like Christmas time because we eat “tamales” (a typical dish). I enjoy drinking “coffee”. For my birthday, I enjoy eating tamales.  In my spare time, I like to run outside. By the grace of God, all my family is in good health. I ask for your prayers because sometimes, I suffer from headaches, but the LW evangelism team told my mother during the visit that I need to go to LW Adopt-A-Child doctor. As a family, we are grateful to LW because we have been blessed in different ways with meals, medical and dental attention, and spiritual support. I also feel so happy when I receive the Christmas gift.  We are a humble family, so our current needs are corn and groceries. May God bless you everywhere you are!

Lots of love,

Deisy Karina Rodriguez Hernandez
